So, the other day I was doing research on google SEO, and one question that kept popping up was, “Why do I feel lazy all the time?” Hmm, interesting. Were you lying in bed or on a couch when you searched for that on google? Most probably it’s a Yes. The real question is what are going to do to change that feeling. Or are you even willing to take steps towards a more active, healthy version of yourself, or just want to lie in bed and keep searching for answers on google?
Now, just a quick disclaimer! I’m not saying that to someone who is having a severe health condition like hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, etc. However, I can assure you that even if you have one such condition there’s nothing that can’t be fixed. Yes, all those health conditions can be cured naturally with lifestyle and diet changes. We have a ton of scientific research to prove that. Then why does nobody talk about it you ask? Well, they do. It’s just that it never reaches you. You see, the world we live in is so monetized that nobody cares about it. Because you can’t earn money from it.
If everybody was given a lifestyle modification and diet plan by a doctor, they are most likely to go to another doctor. Why? Because that doctor turned out to be a “Quack”. He didn’t give me medicine, he just said that you should eat properly, and exercise and you’ll get better with time. What Nonsense, right?
We’ve been brain fed for many years that medicine will solve everything. That a magic pill will help you lose weight in 2 weeks or make you the fittest person on the planet, with ads showing these beautiful models with six-pack abs males and those lean long legs females which they probably made after years of gym training and strict diet. Ahhh, the Irony.
Coming back to the question about feeling lazy all the time. The answer is pretty straightforward because you ARE LAZY. Now, how we stop being lazy? That’s the hard part. It requires willpower, to endure temporary discomfort for a comfortable future. Make small changes in your routine that eventually impact the way you feel.
Reasons for feeling lazy
The feeling of laziness often occurs after having a meal, mostly containing a huge amount of carbs, deep fried in oil, accompanied by a soft drink to often reduce the feeling of discomfort. That food is the worst, it does not provide you with enough nutrition for your brain cells to work. It makes your brain foggy, unable to think and process and you just want to lie down in bed doing nothing.
The culprit for that is Insulin, so insulin is usually good for the body. It is released naturally whenever you eat or drink anything other than water, metabolized the sugar to provide nutrition to your brain and the extra sugar is transferred to muscles to store as glycogen, often on the belly.
spiked insulin makes you feel lethargic because you consumed too much of sugar without enough fiber (mostly vegetables, raw, or cooked) to counteract it.
How to find the problem
In my career as a physiotherapist and a yoga teacher people often come to me to ask, what is the best diet plan is to lose weight and get healthy. My answer has always been the same, the one diet you can do for the rest of your life.
All those diets on the market promise astonishing results and they do work if you remain consistent with them. But can you really do a low-carb or keto diet for the rest of your life? The answer is most probably, No. Why? Because it’s not sustainable. But you think a diet works for you and you can carry on doing that for the rest of your life. Then good for you. However, there are so many people who aren’t even aware of diet and the calories it contains on a daily basis. Either they were never interested in it, or someone never taught them how to.
Before starting any kind of diet plan, it is very important to know what works for you. In order to figure that out, you need to start by asking yourself one simple question every time you are done eating. How am I feeling? Am I feeling stuffed and uncomfortable or am I feeling light and refreshed? If the answer is former and you are feeling stuffed and uncomfortable, you are probably eating the food that your body has a hard time digesting.
You need to fix your diet and Dr. Fuhrman’s EAT TO LIVE is the perfect plan to start with.
How to fix it?
Now, since you figured out the basics. You have assessed yourself and found the right food that causes the problem. I want you to do one thing, no I’m not saying to say bye to them forever. But I do want you to limit it to once a day and the other two meals should be lots of vegetables both raw and cooked, yogurt or any other fermented food, and eggs.
Can you do that?
Now, once you get comfortable with that routine after suppose doing it for a month or so. Reduce the amount of fried food to once a week and reduce your plate size for rice or potatoes, keeping lots of vegetables on the side.
Are you with me?
You will notice a huge difference in your energy levels and the way you feel. That crazy uncomfortable feeling of laziness will be gone.
Want to take it one step further?
Start exercising.
Start with a simple walk every day, and then maybe introduce some push-ups, plank, etc.
The goal is to move forward, to keep the challenge for both your body and your mind. Our brain is a lazy sole at its core and if don’t challenge it all it wants to do is lie around overthinking about the situation that would never happen or some past arguments and how you could have responded differently.
My tip is just to move your body and the brain will just shut up. Wanna know a real-life science experiment?
Okay, get down on the floor now and do a one-minute plank.
Do you remember what you were overthinking about? No right? Because your brain is too busy dealing with the pain of the plank. But it is not only that. Research has shown proof that Exercise not only has body benefits, but it also has a huge impact on our brain function and our mental performance.
Final Word
The formula is pretty simple, eat food that makes you feel good after eating it, and exercise as much as you can. You will beat 90% of the population of your age because they just eat junk food and lie around the whole day and complaint about feeling lazy all the time.
